This week went by fast! It's Friday, which means I will show you another ExLibris from my collection!
Today's ExLibris is by artist for the engineer A. W. Jenssen. It's a showing a road bridge and the phrase "Labor Nobilitat". The ExLibris is mounted on a catalogue card by the previous owner, . He had these cards printed sometime between the 1940s and 1970s.

ExLibris by artist Per Kramer Jr. for the engineer A. W. Jenssen. The linocut print shows a road bridge and the phrase "Labor Nobilitat". Behind the bridge, a huge sun sits in the upper right corner. The artist's initials, P. K., are nestled behind a flimsy tree, buffeted by the wind.
The catalogue card for the ExLibris collection of Rolf Nysted Heier. The only information filled in are the names of the owner and the artist. The other fields are blank. Under "notes", it says linocut in Norwegian.

Ex libris - bokeiermerker - har tradisjon helt tilbake til Tyskland i 1480-årene. I Norge ble Ex libris utbredt på 1700-tallet, ofte var de utformet av kjente kunstnere. Under okkupasjonen 1940-1945 var Ex libris meget populært, etter 1950 er det laget få bokeiermerker og i dag er de ofte samlerobjekt. Ofte viser merkene bare eierens navn, men heldigvis er de bergenske bokeiermerkene ofte prydet med kjente motiver fra Bergen og flere av merkene er tegnet av kjente kunstnere.

And while we're at it - completely unrelated, but MADE MY DAY: It turns out the Bergen Public Library also has a copy of the from 1678! I did not know that despite crawling library catalogues regularly. I guess it is due to the fact that are still not fully findable via online catalogues... What a pleasant surprise!
